PHILIPSBURG:--- On September 14th, 2022, Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten (BTP), together with Keijzer Computers, donated modern ICT equipment to the White Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF). The donation was done in support of the 2022 goals of the International Telecom Union (ITU) to promote digital technologies for older persons and to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, gender, or ability, can equally and equitably make use of ICTs.
The White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation is one of the major healthcare providers in St. Maarten and were in urgent need of more advanced communication equipment for its clients. The donated ICT equipment will be used for online learning- and activity programs and will also be used to make sure that elderly persons are able to stay connected with their loved ones via modern communication devices.
The donation package includes Dell computers, Samsung tablets with protective cases, Smartphones, a laptop, computer desks, office chairs, a projector, specialized software programs, and other useful items such as headsets and soundbars.
Interim Director of BTP, Mrs. Judianne Labega – Hoeve, stated: “On May 17th, 2022, the ICT world celebrated ‘World Telecommunication and Information Society Day’ under the theme “digital technologies for older persons and healthy aging”. We’ve made a pledge on this special day to be in support of the ITU goals and shared beliefs that the aging population deserves to live in dignity with ICT as an important driver for their social inclusion. I’ve therefore requested my staff to reach out to an Elderly Home in Sint Maarten and put together a meaningful donation program”.
Marc Smoorenburg, the owner of Keijzer Computers, stated that he is proud to serve the community by partnering with BTP. The operations Manager of the White Yellow Cross Care Foundation, Mrs. Bregje Boetekees, was delighted with the donation of BTP & Keijzer Computers and indicated that the ICT equipment will be used by elderly clients of WYCCF in several departments. The WYCCF activity coordinators will support the clients within Elderly Care, the Nursing Home, Rehabilitation Center, and Psycho-geriatric Daycare to make great use of the generously donated materials.
