Visa-Free Travel for Guyanese Visitors to UK.

ukguyana18102022Georgetown, Guyana::--- Amid growing confidence in the Government of Guyana, the United Kingdom (UK) has announced that Guyana passport holders will no longer require a visa to visit the United Kingdom.

During a press conference hosted by the British High Commission in Guyana on Tuesday, October 18 in Georgetown, British High Commissioner to Guyana, Jane Miller said that the UK has seen the growth of the relationship with Guyana and together with the direct flights that will be happening at the end of March 2023 with British Airways, the UK believes this change is going to be transformative to the already strong relationship.

“We hope that with this visa lift, we look forward to welcoming many British Guyanese businesses to the UK to explore further opportunities,” Miller stated.

President Irfaan Ali said that the Guyana Government has been working on strengthening and expansion of the relationship between Guyana and the UK.

“The idea of this visa waiver for visitors is not only about strengthening the relationship and building out the expansion of the economic opportunity between Guyana and the UK. But it's important also for people to people contact as we try to build our tourism market, expand our tourism market, especially in the UK,” President Ali stated.

It was explained that once the traveler’s stay in the UK does not exceed six months, no visa will be required. This arrangement takes effect on November 9.
The President warned all Guyanese that with the waivers come to an important responsibility.
“We have a responsibility to safeguard these decisions that they come with hard work and they take a long time and we will be working very closely with the UK, in strengthening our systems to ensure there is proper monitoring and to ensure that there is no abuse of the system,” President Ali stated.
The President told reporters that one of the things that Guyana is hoping to achieve also with the UK, in addition to the direct flights, is to secure more UK financing for the transformative projects being undertaken in Guyana, which is the largest growing economy in the world.
