PHILIPSBURG: --- Chairlady of the Windward Islands Chamber of Labor Unions Claire Elshot tendered her resignation from the chair of the WICLU. In her resignation letter Elshot inform the chamber that based on her recollection she has been serving more than two terms as the chair of WICLU and since she is no longer the president of the WITU, she has decided to tender her resignation with immediate effect.
In explaining her role as the chairlady of the WICLU Elshot said she was tasked with calling and coordinating and chair the meetings under the WICLU with different stakeholders and the unions. She was also able to organize and coordinate the planning of different activities such as Labor Day and the recognition program for heroes who have contributed to the workers' movement, Emancipation Day, and other seminars and workshops on the local, national, and international levels. Manifestations and protest actions were also part of the timeframe of her tenure of the presidency of W.l.C.L.U. This was all in the defense of the workers of Sint Maarten.
However, in the same meeting Thursday evening the President of the WICSU-PSU Sharon Cangieter tabled a motion to have Elshot remain as the chairlady of the WICLU until the chamber finalizes its restructuring. The motion was seconded by the President of NAPB, Mr. Rogerrel Mauricia.
Due to the motion, Elshot has decided to retract her resignation pending the restructuring of the WICLU.
As per further discussion the restructuring of WICLU and the constitution guiding the process, procedures, and regulating the functioning of the WICLU will be discussed as the sole agenda point in the next monthly meeting in November 2022.
The aim is to have this finalized by the 2nd week in December 2022.
