mercelinaursm09112022PHILIPSBURG:--- Leader of the URSM Party, Dr. Luc Mercelina, was a Guest on the Haitian Radio program on PJD2 Sunday night November 6th, 2022, with Host Mr. Pierre Dallise.
During an hour-long interview, Dr. Mercelina revealed that: ”We from the URSM appreciate, and enormously endorse and respect the HASM, that is the Haitian Association of St. Maarten and we especially have a good relationship with the President, also of the Haitian Association of St. Maarten, being Mr. Jimmy Jean-Louis, so we want to send special regards in the name of the URSM for the HASM Members.”
Dr. Mercelina further stated, his party realizes that the objectives of the HASM Association of Haitians living in St. Marten, are the same as the URSM Political Movement. He noted that the Haitian association has as its objectives, to support and defend the social, cultural, professional, and educational interests of the people of St.Maarten, which are the same as the URSM’s plans for St. Maarten.
The URSM political leader pointed out that the Haitian community is a significant part of our community, which plays an important role and contributes significantly, towards the development of St. Maarten, to the development of this country, and also to the economy of St. Maarten. That’s why he cannot think about a St. Maarten without Haitian participation in our community, and he is thankful, considering the contribution that the Haitian community, has contributed to the history and development of the country that we are today.
Meanwhile, “ The Doc’, as he is affectionately known, took the opportunity to introduce one of the candidates who will be contesting on the list of the URSM in the next election, Mr. Julian Rollocks Jr. In his first speech to the country during the interview program, Mr. Rollocks emphasized that he stands for, and represents the support of Small Businesses on St. Maarten, and recognizes the fact there are a lot of small businesses on St. Maarten that are operated by the Haitian community, which is something that we have to look up to, as they too are paying their fair share of taxes o the country of St. Maarten.
Finally, Dr. Mercelina said that the URSM party is very sensitive and concerned about the level of Poverty in St. Maarten, and realizes it’s a big challenge not only for the Haitian community but for other nationalities as well. The poverty rate is too high, so this has become a very high priority for the URSM, and once in Government, will implement and contribute to helping our vision in Government to try and combat poverty, by increasing the minimum wage in this country, with more social and welfare benefits, and also to increase the pension wage for our elderly.
