PHILIPSBURG: --- The Police force of St. Maarten is busy investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Jewelry Store on Front Street. In a preliminary report, Police Spokesman Joe Josepha said that 4 men on two scooters entered the store at gunpoint and robbed the store of jewelry. After committing this act.
The robbers fled in the direction of Over the bank. SMN News learned that Shiva Jewelry was robbed at gunpoint. SMN News further learned that the robbers broke up a number of glass cases as they escaped with a large amount of jewelry.
One scooter believed to be involved in the robbery was later encountered and confiscated.
Officers are currently searching the area for the suspects.

Monday's robbery is one of three the Special Unit Robberies (SUR) team of the Police Force of Sint Maarten KPSM is busy investigating since the weekend. Two armed robberies occurred at two supermarkets in Simpson Bay.
Police patrols have increased monitoring at high target areas in the districts in an effort to curb further robberies.
After a quiet end of the past year in terms of robberies, this worrisome phenomenon has once again resurfaced.
SUR has tallied a total of 19 robberies with violence of varying degrees over the last eight weekends. This includes the snatching of chains and attempted and armed robberies.
