~“United Nations Theme: Digital: Innovation and Technology For Gender Equality”~
PHILIPSBURG:--- President of Peridot Foundation Gracita Arrindell states: “for almost twenty-five years, Peridot Foundation celebrates and commemorates International Women’s Day (IWD2023) March 8th. This year is no exception. Taking heed of and following the directives of the United Nations Secretary-General, we are pleased to commemorate this occasion with a program that will include two dynamic speakers on the theme: DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality.”
“The United Nation’s theme this year is chosen, as stated in several official communications, among others to highlight awareness of the manner in which technology and education in the digital age can empower women and girls across the globe. It is also a theme chosen to continue to inspire and embolden the discussions of those in the field of innovation and technology and improve access to digital tools in a relentless effort to bridge the digital divide. This theme is on point for many reasons including the notion that there is a downward trend of girls entering the innovation and technology field after having gained a period of growth. It will be very interesting to hear the expert's opinion on this matter in regards to the reasons for this turnaround or stagnation; said Arrindell.
Arrindell continues and said: Our featured speakers on Tuesday, March 7th are both highly regarded in their respective fields of work with decades of skills and know -how in technology and innovation. Jose Verschueren -Sommers is well known in our community as the founder, trainer, and manager of Resources for Community Resilience Foundation, better known as R4CR. Npower, the community-based project established under the R4CR is an instrumental tool in connecting Sint Maarten community NGO organizations. With thirty-three years ( 33) of experience that includes being a teacher and principal in education, her work in training, connecting and empowering of NGO’s is outstanding.”
“We are also very excited to host speaker Mrs. Cathy Vollmer. Mrs. Vollmer is Manager of Information Technology Services, Medical Sciences Campus at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Sint Maarten. Mrs. Vollmer illustrious career includes a highly diverse and technical educational background leading up to her present position for over a decade at the AUC. A true source of inspiration for women and girls who aspire to work in the diverse field of work in technology and innovation.”
Peridot Foundation President concludes and states: “the program for Tuesday March 7th in commemoration of IWD March 8, 2023, will include in addition to our two honorable speakers, the recognition of two dynamic women whose identity and achievements will be highlighted more in-depth during the event’s celebration.
We encourage you to save the date of March 7th, 2023 and help celebrate the achievements and aspirations of the speakers as well as the honorees as we continue to uplift and empower each other.
