Committee for Constitutional Affairs and Decolonization of Parliament, to meet for presentations and discussion on the topics; history behind the name “Philipsburg”, towards development justice for the People of St. Martin, and a proposal on the renaming

PHILIPSBURG;--- The Committee for Constitutional Affairs and Decolonization of Parliament will meet on, June 13, 2023.  

The Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at 14.00 hrs. in the General Assembly Chamber of the House at Wilhelminastraat #1 in Philipsburg. Representatives of the Independence for St. Martin Foundation will be present.

The agenda points are:  

  • 1. Presentation by Mr. Jose Lake regarding the history behind the name "Philipsburg" and the person it is named after: John Philips 
  • 2. Presentation on the topic: Towards Development Justice for the People of St. Martin (IS/736/2022-2023 dated May 4, 2023)
  • 3. Discussion regarding the street named " Van Romondtsteeg" and a proposal regarding the renaming of this street by MP Rolando Brison (IS718/2022-2023 dated April 21, 2023)

Agenda points 1 and 3 were requested by MP R. Brison, and MP G.S. Heyliger-Marten requested agenda point 2.

Members of the public are invited to the House of Parliament to attend parliamentary deliberations.  

All persons visiting the House of Parliament must adhere to the house rules.  

The House of Parliament is located across from the Court House in Philipsburg.
