The late Mayor served St. Martin for a period of 24 years before retiring from politics.

The President of the Collectivity of St. Martin Loui Mussington in his condolence message said that Fleming was more than a was a true figure in our community, respected by all, always humble, smiling, and caring for the wellbeing of his administrations. Regardless of his political affiliations, he was liked for his qualities and franchise.
Albert Fleming has come on an extraordinary journey from bricklayer to contractor, then mayor of Saint Martin. His inspiring journey will forever be etched in our memories. Everyone has a memory, an anecdote with the mayor.
His determination, his rise above his original condition, and his unwavering commitment to the common good have sparked the admiration of all who knew him. He was a living example of what can be achieved with determination and perseverance.
During his 24-year term as Mayor of Saint Martin, Albert Fleming left an indelible mark on the local political landscape. His central role in the process that led to the statutory evolution of our Overseas Community in 2007 is an essential link in his political journey. Despite differences of opinion, he managed to transcend divisions and unite living forces to present an innovative project to Minister Brigitte Girardin in 2003, so that the statutory evolution of the island can take place within the framework of Article 74 of the Constitution, thus enshrining the principle of Legislative specialty and autonomy.
Thanks to its impulse, Saint-Martin has acquired a status defined by an organic law that recognizes our specific interests in the Republic.
We are committed to continuing his legacy, we will continue to walk in his footsteps and proudly carry the institutional autonomy of Saint Martin in respect of our geographical, historical, and cultural specificities, and with a firm will to acquire new skills.
The disappearance of Albert Fleming marks the end of a flaming era whose imprint will forever live on in Saint Martin’s history.
His vision, dedication, and love for our island will continue to inspire generations to come.
On behalf of the Community of Saint Martin, its elected officials, and all territorial staff, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Albert Fleming as well as to all Saint Martinians who share our pain. I have an emotional thought for you tonight.
In this time of mourning, let's keep alive his memory and the flame of his legacy, which will continue to light our path for many years to come.
