PHILIPSBURG:--- Rotary International recognizes July as "Maternal and Child Health" and in an effort to promote such, the club chose to focus on dental hygiene amongst children ages 4-12 years. On Friday, July 28th, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset donated 300 dental hygiene kits to three summer camps located on both sides of the island.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset received a sponsorship donation from Dr. Leonie Bryson of Brydent Dental Clinic to assist with purchasing of items for 300 dental hygiene kits. The hygiene kits included a toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss picks. These kits were distributed to the students at 3 summer camps, namely Skills Summer Camp (Dutch Side), Association Positivisme (Agrement), and Association Laliwondaj a Ti Moun (French Side).
Along with the dental hygiene kits, presentations were made by Dr. Hilda Guevara and Dr. Marlène Fleming who shared tips on healthy dental hygiene tips.
Without prevention or the correct implementation of good oral hygiene, it can lead to infection and damage to a child’s first set of teeth. Their underlying adult teeth can also be adversely affected. Instilling healthy oral habits from a young age goes a long way.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset led by Service Project Chair Jade Maccow is happy to be able to execute service projects as such in aid to assist the community at large.
The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at Carl N Sons Unique Inn and Conference Facilities in Cole Bay at 7:30 pm.
