The United People’s Party (UPP) is back with the largest turnout thus far.

~ The UPP was not formed to benefit one individual or their families – Franklyn Meyers.~

uppcandidates13082023PHILIPSBURG: --- Despite the infighting and political backstabbing, the United Peoples Party led by Rolando Brison is back as their supporters showed up in large numbers showing their support for the new and reformed UPP the green machine.
On Sunday evening persons within the St. Maarten community that supported the UPP under the leadership of Theodore Heyliger returned and showed their support for the party that is now led by Member of Parliament Rolando Brison with its deputy leader Minister of VSA Omar Ottley.
Special invited guest and keynote speaker Terrence “Drew” Jr kept the crowd on their feet at the Aleeze Convention Center when he spoke of the importance of youths in every nation. Drew Jr. called on every young person to take up their role in society while knowing their worth. He called on the youths to denounce the labels given to youths that are often called drug addicts and criminals.
Former Member of Parliament and co-founder of the United Peoples Party Franklin Meyers sent a clear message when he said that the United Peoples Party was not formed to benefit any one person or family. It is a party that was formed to unite people and to be inclusive.
At the congress, a new board was nominated and elected, while the UPP board recognized the founding board members for their contributions and dedication towards building the United Peoples Party which was founded by the late Joseph Richardson, Theodore Heyliger, and Franklin Meyers.
The UPP board also recognized some Associations for their contributions. The Indian Merchant Associations, the La Semana Dominicana, the Haitian Association and the Guyanese St. Maarten Association are among those that were recognized.
Leader of the UPP Rolando Brison pledged to continue working for the people of St. Maarten, he reminded that even though he was attacked and faced numerous challenges since being elected and chosen to revive the UPP party he did not get distracted from the work he set out to do for his country and its people. Brison made clear that he is the only Member of Parliament that presented numerous laws to the Parliament of St. Maarten and had them passed.
Another speaker that kept the large crowd going was the “Minister of Everything” Omar Ottley.
Ottley held two Ministries for nine months without complaining, he also reminded the gathering how much he worked on things that mattered to them one being increasing the food basket and ensuring that the minimum wage was increased. He said he is currently working on a living wage for the workers in St. Maarten.
