PHILIPSBURG:--- The Management of NV GEBE has suspended two staff members who worked in the IT Department. The suspension comes one and a half years after the company‘s computer system was hacked with what was reported as the Black Byte attack. The hack has left the company in major chaos since the company lost all its data that was not recovered.
Most recently NV GEBE closed its doors when their monitoring system detected an abnormal pattern in the system. This was detected on July 18, 2023.
In a press statement, NV GEBE said upon detection, their IT specialists joined forces with an external cybersecurity monitoring agency to investigate and safeguard NV GEBE’s systems and information. This active approach reinforces their commitment to learn, adapt, and fortify the digital environment.
GEBE said they have implemented strict precautionary measures to enhance the cybersecurity infrastructure as they continue to investigate this matter. Due to these robust protective measures, NV GEBE's consumer services are not operational, on July 19, and July 20th, 2023.
SMN News learned that two teams one situated in Curacao while the other in the Netherlands were assisting with the latest investigation that led to the suspensions of Russel Sylvester and Leandro Amarello.
So far, the Management of NV GEBE Troy Washington has not updated the community on their findings.
It should be noted that since the 2022 hack NV GEBE has terminated its statutory director Mertril Temmer and Interim Director Sharine Daniel, Both persons were permanent staff of NV GEBE and have taken the company to court contesting their termination. The statutory director won his case and was ordered to be compensated by the court.
