~ says he was being strung along and not being respected.~
PHILIPSBURG:--- Member of the United Peoples Party Lyndon Lewis resigned from the United Peoples Party on Thursday, October 26th, 2023. Lewis in his letter said that he believes that he is being strung along by the UPP party since he is yet to receive his number on the list of candidates that will be contesting the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
Lewis said in an invited comment that he has been asking the party leader and board members for his number since he will be a candidate. "They did tell me not to run and that I will be appointed Minister but I am not accepting that."
He said newcomers received their numbers but he did not get his.
Lewis further explained that he is currently off the island and said he also received an email from the Minister of TEATT who informed him by email that he is no longer a staff of the TEATT cabinet.
Lewis said that the email was sent on October 2nd, 2023 and since he did not have access to his government email he only received the email today informing him that he is no longer a staff member of the TEATT cabinet. He said that he decided to resign from the party because if he is not a staff member of the TEATT cabinet then he is also not a member of the party, believing that it was the reason why he was not given the number for him to contest the 2024 Parliamentary Election on the UPP slate.
Lewis further explained that he has not decided which slate he will run but confirmed that he has been meeting with several other political parties to see the options presented to him.
SMN News was reliably informed that Lewis was given number 9, the same number he was assigned in 2020 when he contested the snap elections for parliament. SMN News also learned that Lewis has not shown up for work for several months thus leading to the termination by the Minister of TEATT Arthur Leo Lambriex.
