~Workshops will be held in the weeks leading up to SXM DOET~
PHILIPSBURG:--- As part of the 10th-year anniversary celebration, the SXM DOET Project Management Team has introduced more diverse workshops for organizations and volunteers to take part in leading up to the SXM DOET weekend slated for March 15 and 16, 2024. As customary for this year, SXM DOET continues its partnership with Kooyman to host the gardening and painting workshop, however, this year, Kooyman has introduced an on-site aspect to the workshop, whereby volunteers will have the opportunity to prepare one of the DOET projects the day before the project occurs. The chosen project that will receive on-site attention is the St. Maarten Academy PSVE’s Growing Green Garden Initiative.
A new workshop being introduced this year is the Capacity-Building workshop, which aims to assist organizations with the planning, financial aspects, and marketing of their project. For this workshop, Ms. Melanie Choisy, Ms. Cassandra Richardson, Mr. Singh, and Digital Island will all be presenters. The Capacity Building Workshop will be providing organizations with the tools needed for volunteer recruitment and engagement, learning how to embrace diversity and inclusion in community projects, insights on materials used for the projects, quotation reviewing, and social media and storytelling tips to make their projects stand out. The capacity building workshop will be held on Saturday, February 17 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the R4CR office and is only admissible by RSVP via email.
The last workshop in the series of workshops for this year is the Sustainable Agriculture workshop. For this workshop, SXM DOET teamed up with ASA/No Kidding with our Kids Foundation to provide hands-on experience and practical knowledge on gardening/planting. During this workshop, participants will receive key insights on optimal planting times for success, benefits of gardening, a comprehensive guide for optimal tools for gardening, live demonstrations, active participation, and an opportunity for Q & A. The Sustainable Agriculture workshop will be held on Saturday, February 24 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at ASA’s farm in St. John’s Estate and is also only admissible by RSVP via email.
