Sint Maarten Police Force Launches Investigation into Armed Robbery.

armedrobberyfilling01032024PHILIPSBURG:--- The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is currently investigating an armed robbery incident that occurred in the early morning hours of March 1st, 2024, at approximately 12:30 AM in the vicinity of a gentlemen's club in Maho.

Reports received by Police Central Dispatch indicated that several individuals contacted Police Central Dispatch to report that two young men had approached a group of women walking in the area and, under threat of a firearm, proceeded to rob them of their belongings. During the robbery, one of the suspects assaulted a female victim by striking her on the head with a firearm.

Following the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a blue small vehicle. Police patrols immediately initiated a search for the suspects. Shortly thereafter, the suspected vehicle was sighted on Union Road near the Salvation Army. Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, resulting in a pursuit towards the Kruithoff roundabout. The pursuit concluded when the suspects abandoned the vehicle on a sideroad adjacent to the roundabout and fled into nearby bushes.

Throughout the early morning hours, intensive search efforts were conducted by officers to try to locate the suspects. Subsequently, upon searching the vehicle, a firearm and other items related to the robbery were discovered and seized for further investigation.

At approximately 6:00 AM on March 1st, 2024, the individuals believed to be the occupants of the blue small vehicle voluntarily contacted the police station, expressing their intention to surrender. One suspect was identified as a minor. Both were subsequently arrested and are currently being detained at the police station pending further investigation.
