MARIGOT: --- The Gendarmes have arrested and released a well-known businessman who was caught on camera molesting his 12-year-old stepdaughter. The arrest took place on Saturday afternoon after the child’s father filed an official report. Several people are being questioned as the investigation progresses. SMN News learned that another mother also came forward and filed a complaint against the businessman whom she alleged also molested her young daughter.
It is alleged that the child, who is the daughter of a territorial councilor, has been molested over four years. Sources said the businessman living in the child's family home with her mother was released on Sunday.
SMN News learned that both the businessman and the victim and her family are well known in the St. Martin’s community, and many feared that the family of the victim would retaliate and take the laws into their own hands since the alleged predator and child molester is walking around as a free man.
SMN News contacted the Captain of the Gendarmerie for an official comment and was told that such investigations are protected by professional secret therefore elements of the inquiry can only be released by the Public Prosecutor.
