PHILIPSBURG: --- Members of the St. Maarten community are asking how Mescach Emmanuel, AKA 'Plumpy Boss, ' entered St. Maarten and where the country's intelligence unit was. “Plumpy Boss just recently secured $350.000.00 (TT) bail.
Several people in St. Maarten are asking if the Minister of Justice Lyndon Lewis approved the artiste's entry or if there is a possible widening of corruption in St. Maarten, especially now that the KPSM said in their press release that police and immigration officers were working as security at Moon Bar, where the event took place Saturday night.
SMN News learned that the business establishment did not request a permit for the event held on Saturday evening; however, the establishment has a 24-hour business (economic) license. However, the establishment must request an operation permit for an international artist to perform. SMN News further understands that the establishment had to submit a deposit to the government in case of mishaps. Also, this helps the tax department to be at the location where it can collect its share of taxes derived from the event.
An investigation is underway because a permit was not requested, and KPSM and Immigration officers worked as security officers.
SMN News further learned that this is not the first time police and immigration officers have worked at side jobs because they are heavily underpaid. Some officers with side hustles are understood to be doing so to make ends meet.
