PHILIPSBURG:--- Defense Caribbean Territory provides assistance on the island during the political elections at the request of local authorities of Sint Maarten. During the assistance, which will be provided between August 1st, 2024 and August 31st, 2024, Defense will support the Sint Maarten Police Corps in guaranteeing safety and maintaining public order.
At the request of the local authorities of Sint Maarten, the Defense Caribbean will provide assistance in Sint Maarten. The assistance has been requested in the run-up to the upcoming political elections that will take place on August 19, 2024, in Sint Maarten. Defense agreed to the request and will therefore support the Sint Maarten Police Corps from August 1st, 2024, to August 31st, 2024, in guaranteeing security and maintaining public order surrounding the political elections. The assistance will be provided by marines from Detachment Sint Maarten, marines from Marine Squadron Carib and Curaçao soldiers. When carrying out the assistance, Defense works closely with the Sint Maarten Police Corps.
Defense has a permanent presence in the Caribbean for various tasks. Providing assistance to civil authorities is one of the three main tasks of the armed forces.
