PHILIPSBURG:--- Two persons, a male and a female, lost their lives early Saturday morning when they crashed into a GEBE meter house on AT Illidge Road. The accident took place around 5 am Saturday, police have said.
According to a press statement from KPSM, the police arrived on the scene just around 5 am when they received several phone calls; upon reaching the scene, which was in the vicinity of a large and well-known Supermarket, police found the two lifeless victims lying beside the road a and motorcycle was also next to the bodies.
Police said the ambulance personnel attempted to aid the two victims but to no avail. Shortly after, ambulance personnel indicated to the officers that both victims had passed away from the injuries received from the accident. Traffic department personnel were on the scene investigating this unfortunate incident.
Police are currently also investigating a traffic accident that took place on the Sucker Garden Road involving a police vehicle. According to preliminary reports, a scooter rider was on the Sucker Garden Road heading towards Philipsburg. The rider slipped on an oil spilled by an unknown vehicle on the road and fell, injuring himself. A gray pick-up belonging to the police who was driving just in the back of the scooter rider, had to make an urgent maneuver to avoid crushing the fallen rider, causing him to slam into a container on the side of the road. Both the scooter rider and the Police officers only suffered minor injuries. The ambulance personnel treated them. Police are also looking into the situation that over the last weeks, there were several complaints made over oil and gravel spills on the road and more so on Sucker Garden Road. Further information will be provided when this becomes available. The Traffic Department is also investigating this case.
