The International Military exercise ‘Très Kolos’ this year took place on the island of Aruba. Participants during this two weeks’ exercise (October 14-25) were American, French and Dutch Marines, who participated to strengthen the collaboration; this took place at the Marine barracks in Savaneta.
Très Kolos (three colors) since 2010 is known with this name. The three colors refer to the flags of the countries that participated historically.
The exercise consists of a military competition in which teams from various countries compete against each other, as well as a section with tactical exercises and scenarios. The competition part contains components such as strength and endurance exercises, a water and obstacle course, an amphibious course, and shooting and navigation assignments.
The tactical part consists of various exercises that include climbing, tracking, and an amphibious attack.
All activities exercised during Très Kolos are particularly challenging activities. Military physical and mental skills are extensively touched upon in order to bring out the best in the teams in the areas of sportsmanship, cooperation, integration, and competition. The aim of the exercise is to further consolidate and expand the integration and mutual relations between the various armed forces. This is to be even better prepared for the three main tasks of Defence in the Caribbean Region, such as protecting the Dutch Caribbean islands/countries and providing emergency aid, such as during a hurricane passage.
