The Cay Bay Community Council is reaching out to the residents of Cole Bay and Cay Bay and by extension the community of St. Maarten, for assistance in identifying the graves of loved ones buried in the Cay Bay Cemetery.
PHILIPSBURG:--- Due to the pressing issue of limited space within the cemetery, the Council has consulted with the Minister of VROMI, who has committed to convening a meeting soon to tackle the spacing concerns. This meeting will aim to find sustainable solutions for effective cemetery management and long-term preservation.
While some grave markers include the names and details of the deceased, family affiliations are often unclear. To rectify this, we request that families provide contact information for a registry we are establishing. Given the numerous family plots in the Cay Bay Cemetery, identifying these will enhance our record-keeping efforts.
The Cay Bay Cemetery holds significant historical and cultural value; however, many grave markers have deteriorated over time, complicating the identification of some burial sites. We encourage residents with loved ones interred in the cemetery to share any pertinent information to ensure all graves are respectfully recorded.
If you have a relative buried at the Cay Bay Cemetery, please provide the following details, if available:
• Full names of the deceased
• Dates of birth and death (if known)
• Specific locations of the graves within the cemetery (if known)
• Any additional identifying information
• Family contact information
Your support will help us uphold the site's dignity, effectively manage its limited space, and complete the cemetery registry.
For inquiries or to schedule an appointment, please contact the Cay Bay Community Council by November 30, 2024.
