PHILIPSBURG:--- Police have arrested one suspect in an attempted armed robbery of a Jewelry Store on Front Street.
Central police dispatch received the first call at about 02.10 pm about the ongoing robbery. Several officers spotted two suspects on a black and red scooter who attempted to flee the scene.
An officer started a chase, and one of the suspects was apprehended. He was brought to the police station, where he is being held pending further investigation. Police are still searching for the second suspect. The scooter was also confiscated. This investigation is currently ongoing.
Bystanders who witnessed the commotion during the daring broad daylight robbery attempt on the Jewelry Store said that one of the suspects attempted to run over an officer with the motorcycle, thus prompting police to fire shots at the suspect.
Police Spokesman Joe Josepha could not confirm whether an officer was injured or if shots were fired at the suspect. Josepha said that further information would be divulged when he got the full report from the detectives. The Police Inspector later noted that, indeed, a warning shot was fired at the suspect. Due to the ongoing investigations, Josepha said more information could not be released immediately.
