PHILIPSBURG:--- November 25 marks the beginning of the annual 16 Days of Activism to Eradicate Violence Against Women and Girls. Women’s Desk proudly joins local, regional, and international organizations in this critical movement aimed at fostering a safe and supportive environment for women, girls, families, and, ultimately, the entire community of St. Maarten.
Protecting women and girls is essential to preventing a ripple effect of violence and instability within our society. By addressing these issues, we contribute to building a safer, more harmonious community for everyone.
This year, Women’s Desk is teaming up with two remarkable organizations to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism through impactful initiatives:
• Prominent Women: Launching the Sisterhood Support Group, providing a safe space for women to connect, share, and empower one another.
• Stichting Building Bridges Saving Lives: Showcasing portraits of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) survivors at various locations. Each portrait will feature a QR code, offering additional information about the survivor’s journey. These portraits will also be part of a silent auction, with proceeds going towards continued GBV awareness efforts.
Further details about these initiatives and additional activities will be shared in subsequent updates. Let us come together to stand against violence and advocate for the safety and well-being of women and girls in St. Maarten.
