PHILIPSBURG:--- The Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is investigating an incident on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at approximately 4:50 PM at the Econo Supermarket, located on Welgelegen Road.
Preliminary reports indicate that a male suspect entered the supermarket and was observed unlawfully attempting to remove/steal items from the premises. When confronted by supermarket staff and instructed to return the items, the suspect refused to comply and instead assaulted the staff member, inflicting injuries on the individual.
The staff intervened and managed to restrain the suspect until officers of the Sint Maarten Police Force arrived at the scene. During the altercation, the suspect sustained injuries requiring medical attention. Following his arrest, the individual was transported to the hospital for treatment under police supervision.
The Sint Maarten Police Force emphasizes that this incident is being investigated, and all relevant parties are cooperating to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the event".
