St. Maarten is in its darkest days --- MP Meyers.

franklynmeyers14012025PHILIPSBURG: --- Member of Parliament Franklyn Meyers quoted scriptures as he addressed parliament during the 2025 budget debate.
Meyers said St. Maarten is in its darkest days since the island is dirty, crime is rampant, and people are dying.
The SAM MP said they were all on the same ship and had to right the ship because none of them could leave.
Meyers said that members of parliament focus on individual ministers and not the problem.
The MP said that the shootings that took place on the French side are affecting the Dutch side and quoted the late Felix Choisy, who said that the gale does not stop at the border.
He felt everyone was responsible for the garbage situation in St. Maarten. “People brag about coming to St. Maarten with $2 in their pockets; today, they have millions.”
Meyers asked the Minister of Justice Nathalie Tackling to provide figures on the number of police officers and how many are needed.
He then asked the Minister of ECYS to update parliament on the missing funds from the Charlotte Brookson Academy.
“This is a fact: money was stolen from Charlotte Brookson Academy, and I can tell you that you have to be a special type of person to steal from children.”

He reminded the government that St. Maarten was in a crisis, and they had to do what needed to be done, not because they wanted to but because they were obliged to do so.
