PHILIPSBURG: --- Prime Minister Dr. Luc Mercelina sounded the alarm for the second time on St. Maarten’s readiness for marijuana legalization.
Mercelina said St. Maarten has severe challenges with Turning Point as well as with Mental Health, and for him, the legalizing of marijuana is not a priority.
The Prime Minister made the statements on Wednesday when he was asked about the legislation on the legalization. In response to the outsourcing of the legislation, Mercelina said he had not even looked at it since taking office. He made clear that his priority is ensuring the country is ready for the legalization and not the actual legalization. “ I am not saying I am Pro or Against, but I know what challenges this will bring. The Dutch did its best when it comes to regulating the sale of marijuana, and it has not been easy for them. Even though they are the best regarding regulation, they too still have serious challenges.”
