PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of TEATT Grisha Heyliger Marten, the Minister of TEATT, announced on Wednesday that the Council of Ministers has decided not to appeal the recent court verdict that EZ Air won.
Heyliger Marten said the Court of First Instance has issued a ruling in the case between EZ Air and the St. Maarten Civil Aviation Authority (SMCAA). The case centered on an additional permit condition requiring written confirmation from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding EZ Air’s U.S. N-registered aircraft oversight.
The court ruled that this condition was unnecessary, as existing aviation regulations already define oversight responsibilities. Furthermore, the Government did not provide sufficient justification for imposing this requirement. After careful consideration, the Government has decided not to appeal against the ruling.
Heyliger Marten told reporters on Wednesday that she wants to reaffirm that aviation safety remains a top priority for St. Maarten. The SMCAA strictly adheres to both international and national regulations to ensure compliance. EZ Air has met these stringent standards, and St. Maarten expects all airlines operating in St. Maarten to continue adhering to all applicable laws and safety protocols.
This Government remains committed to maintaining a transparent and well-regulated aviation sector that fosters economic growth, fair competition, and safe air travel.
