WILLEMSTAD CURACAO:--- This year there was a special addition to the Big Carnival Parade of Curaçao: for the first time, a military Steelband participated in the parade. The band makes an energetic musical contribution with specially rehearsed Tumba and Soca numbers.
The Steelband made her debut during the Great Parade, the big Carnival Parade, on Sunday March 2, which is known as the highlight of the Carnival.
On Tuesday March 4, once again the Steelband will move along during the ‘Marcha di Despedida’ the Farewell Parade, the traditional closing parade which ends the Carnival festively.
With the Tumba and Soka music, the band adds a unique energy to the parade. The collaborations within Defense in the Caribbean are expressed during Carnival in the power of coming together and connecting.
The Steelband of the Marine Corps previously took part in Carnival parades in Aruba. It was here that the Steelband was born in 1969, and eventually the Steelband music (originally Caribbean) went to the Netherlands. The Steelband provides music at parties, events, and receptions. Military ceremonial plays a key role for Defense on Royal and National occasions.
