Sint Maarten Library Launches “Inspiring Our Future Leaders” Initiative for National Reading Month 2025.

pjllibrary06032025PHILIPSBURG:---  The Sint Maarten Library is proud to celebrate National Reading Month 2025 with the launch of its March initiative, “Inspiring Our Future Leaders.” This impactful program aims to promote literacy, empower youth, and cultivate a love for reading by engaging prominent male figures in the community to lead by example.
Throughout March, the library will host a series of activities where respected men from the community will inspire children through reading. Every Saturday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the library will feature distinguished guest readers, including Pastor Eric van Arneman, radio personality Kevin “Suppa Kid” Petrona, library staff member Daniel Helligar, and renowned storyteller Garfield “Papa Mpho” Young. These influential figures will read selections from literature written by local Sint Maarten authors, fostering a deeper connection to the island’s literary heritage. The program specifically targets children aged 4 to 10 years, encouraging them to engage with books in an interactive and inspiring way.
Expanding beyond the library, the initiative will continue into Sint Maarten’s secondary schools with acclaimed author Gramey Browne, who will present his memoir, “Learning the Business of Life: The Only Limits in Business and Life Are Your Imagination and Determination”, this book is also available in the collection. Browne will share his personal journey of overcoming bullying and discrimination, highlighting the transformative power of mentorship and literacy in shaping his success — highlighting the transformative power of mentorship and literacy in shaping his success. His story aims to provide guidance and encouragement to students facing similar challenges, offering them positive alternatives and solutions.
The library will also host a special virtual storytime on the featured author broadcast on March 22, 2025, via its official Facebook page, allowing an even wider audience to participate in the celebration of reading and literacy.
The Sint Maarten Library calls upon all men in the community to participate actively, reinforcing the message that reading is a fundamental tool in shaping future leaders. By sharing their experiences, wisdom, and stories, community members can play a crucial role in offering young people an alternative to violence and hardship—providing them with access to books, knowledge, and empowerment opportunities.
