PHILIPSBURG:--- Member of Parliament Ardwell Irion is calling out what he describes as a clear case of governmental hypocrisy and irresponsibility. While Prime Minister Luc Mercelina has publicly urged residents to prepare for the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, the government itself has failed to take the most basic step: insuring its own government buildings.
"It is completely unacceptable for the government to be lecturing the population on preparedness when it has not even insured its government buildings," stated MP Irion. "This is not leadership. This is negligence."
Despite launching public awareness campaigns and holding meetings with emergency support functions, the administration has not secured coverage for public properties, leaving the country dangerously exposed if disaster strikes. This contradiction between message and action undermines public trust and puts the financial burden of hurricane recovery directly on the backs of taxpayers.
MP Irion stressed that preparedness is not about photo ops and press statements. It is about doing the work behind the scenes to protect the people. He questioned how a government that has not handled its own responsibilities can expect the population to take its words seriously.
He is now calling on the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers to come clean on the insurance status of all government buildings and to explain why this critical obligation has been neglected. The public deserves transparency, and those responsible for this lapse must be held accountable.
"You cannot preach preparedness while operating unprepared," Irion concluded. "This type of negligence has real consequences and the people deserve better."
