Official Statement Regarding SZV’s Recruitment Process for the Director Position.

PHILIPSBURG:--- As the Minister directly responsible for SZV, I would like to address the matter of the article on social media regarding the Director of SZV position. Firstly, I would like to make it abundantly clear that I have not given any statement or spoken to any media house on this matter.

It is also important to clarify that I have not yet received any formal submission from the board of SZV with the nominated candidate's name for the SZV director position. However, a meeting is scheduled with the SZV board as per their request for the formal submission of the nominated candidate later this week. It is essential that we ensure all processes are conducted fairly and with integrity.

Misinformation can be harmful, not only to the candidates who have put themselves forward and their families, but also to the integrity of the recruitment process itself. It is troubling to see unfounded rumors causing confusion, particularly when they involve candidates who have shown interest and commitment to this position.

As a country, it is essential that we foster a culture of respect and professionalism. We can only grow as a community when we eliminate behaviors that undermine our institutions, processes, and our own people.

Editors Note:

It should be noted that Minister of VSA Richinel Brug was contacted several times this week by telephone for comment regarding this incident and related matters, but did not answer the calls or return them. The article in question was also sent to the Minister for comment; however, no response was provided.

On Tuesday, the Minister of VSA confirmed his attendance at the weekly press briefing but cancelled on Wednesday morning. This is not the first occasion where clarity and timely public communication from the Minister have been lacking. Several times, when questioned, the Minister has promised to respond in writing, but responses have not been forthcoming.

While the Minister chose not to address questions about the operations of the country in a formal setting, discussions were reportedly held privately with other members of parliament after the conclusion of public parliamentary sessions. Public officials have also, on occasion, opted to discuss government matters in informal settings outside of official channels.

As a media organization, we reaffirm that SMN News is dedicated solely to informing the people of St. Maarten about the day-to-day operations within the country, maintaining impartiality and independence from any politicians or ministers. It is crucial that widespread concerns, including allegations of corruption, are addressed transparently by the relevant authorities.

We remain committed to reporting accurately and holding public officials accountable where necessary, in the interest of the St. Maarten community.
