~Armed suspects escape on scooter toward the border.~
PHILIPSBURG:--- The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is investigating two supermarket robberies and one attempted robbery committed at three different supermarkets in the Simpson Bay area on Wednesday evening.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. on September 16, 2026, Central Police Dispatch received several calls reporting the incidents. Police patrol units and detectives were immediately dispatched to the three locations.
Preliminary information indicates that two men dressed in dark clothing carried out the robberies while traveling on a scooter. The suspects were reportedly armed with a firearm.
Two supermarkets were successfully robbed, while the suspects’ attempt to rob a third supermarket was unsuccessful.
After the incidents, the suspects reportedly fled on the scooter toward the Bellevue border. Police said the two men crossed the border and escaped onto the French side of the island.
Detectives are gathering evidence and additional information as the investigation continues.
KPSM is asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Simpson Bay area around the time of the robberies, or who has information that could assist the investigation, to contact the police.
