PHILIPSBURG:--- The St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) is investigating an altercation between two males that occurred on Thursday morning, October 8, 2026, at approximately 7:30 a.m. near Welfare Road.
According to preliminary information, the altercation escalated, resulting in a machete being used during the incident. One of the males sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for medical treatment. The victim’s injuries are considered serious but are not life-threatening.
Police subsequently arrested the suspect in connection with the incident, who is currently being processed as the investigation continues.
KPSM would like to remind the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands or allowing disagreements to escalate into violence. Resorting to violence can have serious and long-lasting consequences, not only for those directly involved but also for their families and the wider community.
The Police Force urges members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and to seek assistance from the appropriate authorities when disputes arise.
