Mother demands action after 12-Year-Old son robbed at Kim Sha parking lot.

kimshaparking12102026SIMPSON BAY:--- A mother is calling for urgent action to improve safety around the Kim Sha parking lot after she said her 12-year-old son was robbed of his chain while waiting beside a family vehicle on Sunday night.

Speaking to SMN News, the mother said her son had gone out to celebrate his brother’s birthday. One stop was near the small restaurants at Kim Sha, where the child waited beside their vehicle for about ten minutes.

According to her account, someone approached the boy, snatched his Gucci chain, and threatened to slap him. The child was so frightened that he did not scream, even though other people were nearby on the opposite side of the vehicle.

“They didn’t spare a child,” the mother said.

A Birthday Celebration Turns Frightening

What should have been a happy family outing instead left a young boy frightened and his mother questioning whether families can safely enjoy one of Simpson Bay’s popular gathering spots.

The mother said police attended after the incident. According to her, responding officers expressed frustration over similar incidents and encouraged her to bring the matter to public attention.

SMN News has not independently confirmed that account with the Police Force of Sint Maarten. The identity and age of the alleged perpetrator, and the status of any investigation, were not established at the time of writing.

The child’s identity is being withheld to protect his privacy.

Mother Calls for a Safer Kim Sha

The mother expressed anger over what she considers inadequate attention to safety in the area. She said Kim Sha should be a place where residents and visitors can eat, celebrate, and spend time together without fear of being targeted.

“It’s supposed to be a spot where locals and tourists can go to enjoy and feel safe. But sadly, it’s the opposite,” she said.

She wants to make her son’s experience public so authorities understand the fear such incidents create and take residents’ concerns seriously.

Her account raises pressing questions about security around the parking lot and nearby restaurants: Is there sufficient police presence during busy evening hours? What measures protect patrons walking to or waiting beside their vehicles? And how will authorities respond to a report that a child was threatened and robbed during a family celebration?

For this mother, the demand is straightforward: a night out should not end with a frightened child and a family wondering whether it is safe to return.
