Court grants prosecutors permission to proceed against MP Lyndon Lewis.

lyndonlewis05012026PHILIPSBURG:--- Member of Parliament Lyndon Lewis says the court has granted the Public Prosecutor’s Office permission to proceed to trial with its case against him, following a hearing held on October 6.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Lewis said the court ruled on October 28. He explained that prosecutors sought permission because he is a sitting Member of Parliament.

The statement did not identify the allegations or announce a trial date.

Lewis emphasized that the ruling allows the case to proceed and does not establish his guilt.

“The court’s decision is permission for the case to proceed, not a finding of guilt,” he stated. “I welcome the opportunity to respond to the allegations through the judicial process and present my defense.”

Lewis said he faces the next stage with “confidence and resolve” and remains committed to carrying out his parliamentary duties.

“My commitment to the people of Sint Maarten remains firm. I remain focused on my responsibilities as a Member of Parliament and on the work the people have entrusted me to do,” he said.

Thanking those who continue to support him, Lewis said he would approach the proceedings with “dignity, determination, and respect for the rule of law.”
