"We acknowledge that there were some problems of organization in a few of the polling stations and we are working on correcting this in order to have a better flow of voters passing through the stations, so the greatest number of voters possible can make their choice of candidate," Gumbs said. The President also thanked the election staff of the Collectivité for their hard work, and said that they will be called on again to repeat the effort this coming Sunday for the second round.
The second round of the election will be contested by the RRR party and Team Daniel Gibbs, Gumbs indicated. There was no mention in the press release of the third party Union pour Le Progres prompting speculation that Louis-Constant Fleming may not participate.
President Frantz Gumbs also thanked the population and the candidates for their peaceful participation. He said there were some confrontations here and there but the people acted in a "generally civilized" manner during the first round of the election and during the campaign beforehand.
He said all six lists had the opportunity to express themselves in complete freedom. "The print and broadcast media, social networks, permitted debates to be organized and these contributed significantly to informing the public. It allowed the respective programmes, and the candidates themselves, to become better known."
