A press release from the Gendarmerie states that on October 27, 2011, two persons committed an armed robbery, one used a hammer to break the glass cases and steal an undisclosed amount of jewelry while his accomplice held one of the employees up at gunpoint. The two culprits then escaped after committing the crime. An investigation into the daring daylight armed robbery was opened shortly after by the Gendarmes. Some weeks later, the Gendarmes managed to apprehend one of the two suspects that was spotted walking in the Marigot area on January 24, 2012. He was immediately arrested and transferred to Guadeloupe pending his trial. On March 12, the Gendarmes arrested the second suspect at his home. Both suspects are currently in Guadeloupe pending their trial.
