St. Maarten Prepares to Celebrate World Health Day.

swescotwilliams04042012Philipsburg:--- The Government and people of St. Maarten will be celebrating Word Health Day on April 7, 2012 announced Prime Minister Sarah Wescot Williams at Wednesday's Council of Ministers press briefing. Wescot Williams said the annual celebration is in recognition of the founding WHO in 1948. World Health Day is a global campaign inviting everyone to focus on one single health challenge with global impact and also provides an opportunity to start collective action to protect people's health and well-being. The topic for 2012 is Aging and Health with the theme Good Health Adds Life to Years.
The Prime Minister calls on all health institutions on St. Maarten, practitioners, and NGO's to focus on educating the community on aspects of health. Wescot Williams also issued a call on all women to take responsibility for their health by doing regular medical check-ups and to heed the warning signs such as aches and pains. The Prime Minister said she is working on launching a program called "You Too Can Move" which involves Zumba sessions. Civil servants that are interested in the program are urged to contact the members of the Prime Minister's cabinet for more information.
A mini health forum is scheduled to take place on May 7th where a health practitioner and a nutritionist will be making presentations on proper eating habits, dieting, and exercising.
