Simpson Bay:--- The Ministry of Justice is still busy accessing the extent of the damage done to the Simpson Bay holding cells Tuesday night. SMN News understands that the prisoners that are held the Simpson Bay Outpost started a gang fight Tuesday night. A source close the investigation said that the prisoners destroyed all the furniture and doors at the new location. It is also understood that some of the prisoners were transferred back to the Pointe Blanche Prison facility. SMN News further learnt that some of the prisoners that were held at the Simpson Bay holding cells are part of a gang and there was some sort of altercation prior to them being arrested.
Prison Director Rudsel Ricardo said he was not aware of the incident since he was not on the island when it occurred. Ricardo said he was just returning to St. Maarten from his Easter vacation and he was not privy to what exactly happened. Minister of Justice Roland Duncan could not be reached up to press time on Wednesday for a comment.
