Rotaract Club’s 2nd Hurricane Awareness Mission successful.

rotaractclubmembersduringham05082012Philipsburg:--- The Rotaract Club of St. Maarten Sunrise, a community service based organization held its second H.A.M at Le Grande Marche Bush Road on Saturday August 4th 2012. It was a Hurricane Awareness Mission whereby the club members collected non-perishable items from customers shopping at the supermarket. The items collected are then given to the local Red Cross in the event of a hurricane or natural disaster. If there are no natural disasters, The Red Cross distributes the items to persons in the community that are in need.

The event was very successful; the club collected a large amount of can goods, baby products, rice and cases of bottled water just to name a few. All items collected were carried to the Red Cross on the same day and handed over to employee of the Red Cross, Marcaado Winklaar who was very thankful for the contributions.

The members of the Rotaract Club of St. Maarten Sunrise would like to extend its appreciation and gratitude towards members of the community that made contributions to this effort. The club will continue with this project throughout the hurricane season, scheduling their donation drives on the 1st Saturday of the month from 11:00am to 2:00 pm until November 2012. The next H.A.M will be at Sunny Foods Supermarket on September 1st, 2012. Other than can foods, persons can also donate clothing at the club's H.A.M events. The Rotaract Club of St. Maarten Sunrise encourages the community to continue supporting them with their efforts to maintaining service above self which is the club's motto.
