Sources close to the Resort said the resort's accountant who is also of Indian decent resigned while he was on vacation. So far it is not yet known how much monies were embezzled from the resort and how many persons are actually involved in the theft.
Head of the Detective Department Denise Jacob confirmed the arrest of one person as they continue the investigation. Jacob said financial investigations are normally huge and it would quite some months before it is completed. Jacobs further explained that one person was arrested identified as A.C.G. and no monies have been seized in the ongoing investigation. Jacobs said at this time it is not possible for investigators to say exactly how much money was involved in embezzlement.
SMN News further learnt that a well known accountant related to the Prime Minister of St. Maarten was questioned in the Westin investigation and an ongoing investigation that involves a well known businessman in Cay Hill. Last week Thursday, the police and tax department raided the businessman's house and business place. At the time, Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos said that the police and tax department were busy investigating a case of fraud.
