The St. Maarten Bar Association met with USM director Annelies van den Assem on Wednesday March 28, 2012 to discuss possible cooperation with the USM with regards to the announced Law programme USM is planning to start.Bar Association president Remco Stomp requested a meeting with USM president Mrs. van den Assem after reading about the Law Programme initiative in the local media.
"The Bar Association is highly interested in Law programme initiatives that could get local students involved in the Legal profession. On the one hand, it would provide local youth with a possibility to become a legal professional, be it as a paralegal or an attorney. On the other hand, it would provide a chance for local lawfirms to hire locals instead of having to go abroad, a possible win-win situation," Stomp explained.
The St. Maarten Bar Association commends the USM for its Law programme initiative and will closely monitor any further developments with regards to the announced program.
