One of the programs which took place in December 2011, was the donation of exercise machines to several organizations involved with seniors on St. Maarten, the St. Martin Home in St. John, the Senior Citizen Recreation Center in the Hope Estate and the Home away from Home, which meets at the John Larmonie Center. The recently established Aging with Grace Foundation was also donated an exercise machine as a door-prize for the Christmas Karaoke Festival in December 2011.
Another part of the NTBC anniversary outreach program is the organization of a series of lectures on Health and on Finances that will be taking place in the upcoming months.
The first lecture to jumpstart the lecture series will be a lecture on taxes and on the filling in of the Income Tax Forms which was recently sent to the population.
Miss Maria Bass, tax inspector at the Tax Office with many years of experience in tax matters, has been invited by the New Testament Baptist Church to provide information on taxes to its members and to the general public at large.
According to Pastor Smith of the New Testament Baptist Church, too many people are ignorant of the need for paying their taxes and do not know how to handle their taxes. He is of the opinion that many people who do not file their taxes because they do not know how to do so and not because they are acting in bad faith.
Especially with the deadline for submission of the Income Tax Forms for the year 2011 coming up, which is at the end of May, Pastor Smith is inviting the general public to come out and get the relevant information to get equipped to be able file the taxes for 2011.
With St. Maarten becoming a new nation, additional responsibilities and expenditure are required and the population must be informed why the collection of taxes is a necessity and a moral obligation.
The lecture on taxes will take place on Tuesday, May 8, 2011 at 7:30 pm in the Robert Mayer Center at the New Testament Baptist Church, in Philipsburg, next to KFC. The general public is invited to come out and to make use of this opportunity to be informed. There will be a question and answer period so come with your tax forms, notebooks and feel free to ask our Tax Inspector any question you may have.
