Man Fatally shot during Carnival 2012 Celebrations.

owenmeyers27042012Philipsburg:--- The 2012 Carnival celebrations recorded its first murder early Friday morning.
Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos confirmed that a shooting took place on Soualiga Road around 1am on Friday morning and the victim died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses identified the victim as Owen Meyers (20) from Down Street. They said the victim seems to have had a 'beef' with someone because only recently he was released from prison.
Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson said in an invited comment that the shooting took place opposite the Festival Village. Henson said a group of boys were in the vicinity of the Little League Ball Park when police were informed of the fatal shooting. Henson said the victim was pronounced dead on the spot by the police doctor.
The police spokesman further explained the young man was shot by one of the persons that he was among but police has no details as to why Meyers was shot and by whom he was shot. "Police have some sketchy information as to who the suspect might be, but no one has been arrested as yet. The investigation is its preliminary stages and as soon as more information is available I will report it to media," Henson concluded.

Man shot to death in front of the Festival Village.

A shooting incident took place opposite the Festival Village on Friday April 27th at approximately 12:35am during the International Reggae Show. This information came in at the police station located in the Festival Village shortly after the incident took place. Several officers were sent the scene to investigate the matter and where indeed the body of the young man who later was identified as Owen Meyers (20 years old) was located. The victim did not show any signs of life and was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor from the wound he had suffered. The body of the victim was confiscated for further investigation. The area was immediately secured and declared a "crime scene". The Forensic Department and Detective Department immediately started with the investigation collecting evidence to try and piece together exactly what happened, who the shooter is and why this incident took place. The police department is asking anyone who may have any information that could shed some light on this case to please get in contact with the Detective department.
