Imbali dancers return victorious from Nice.

sjacobscommendsimbalidancers21052012GREAT BAY (DCOMM):--- Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth Silveria Jacobs met with two young dancers of the Imbali Center for Creative Movement lead by Clara Reyes at the John Larmonie Cultural and Community Center.

The two young dancers, Kiara Vanterpool and Jeremiah David, both eleven years old, won gold medals on May 16 for Contemporary Duet, choreographed by Peggy Oulerish. Jeremiah won second gold for Jazz/Modern Jazz in the individual category. These two dancers continue to excel over the past three years under the tutelage of their tireless instructors, Clara, Peggy, and Rudy among others.

The French Federation of Dance 4-day competition held in Nice, France, was open to 3000 participants, ranging in age from four to twenty years old.

Minister Jacobs commended the young students as well as their instructors, hailing their accomplishments as a tremendous example of what little St. Maarten can produce—world class talent. As Minister of Culture, her office will promote excellence and support the arts, culture and sports and will aim to make these more available to each child as part of the school curriculum. Each child should have the opportunity to explore his/her talent.

As a former dancer of the Motiance and Imbali Dance Schools, Minister Jacobs said, "It is an additional honor for me in my first official function to be able to welcome Kiara and Jeremiah back home after they were able to accomplish this extraordinary feat. I encourage them to continue dancing and to reach for the stars. They are indeed an example for the St. Maarten community. They and the Imbali Center for Creative Arts have made us extremely proud.
