
According to the workers of that department, they put on the air-condition in their office and shortly after they got a strong burning smell. One of the workers said he did his own inspection because he knew that some work was being conducted on the air-conditioning on Tuesday but he could not determine the cause of the smoke and burning smell.
The civil servant said when he called the fire department to notify them they called back asking if he believes the issue was serious enough for them to dispatch the fire fighters.
When asked about this, the Prime Minister of St. Maarten and Minister of General Affairs Sarah Wescot Williams said she was not aware of the incident. "I am not saying it was not serious but no one reported it to me."
Moving to the Government Building on Pond Island.
The Prime Minister said that contractors have been selected to finalize the work at the Government Administration Building on Pond Island. She said these contractors know what they need to do in order to have it up and running. The Prime Minister also confirmed that RGM will still manage the building until government acquires the building. Wescot Williams did not give a timeline in which they expect to move over to the Government Building on Pond Island.
