Government holds Healthy cooking workshop this Monday, June 4 at St. Peters Community Center.

Philipsburg (DCOMM):--- The Department of Community Development in collaboration with the Health Department of the Foundation of Seventh Day Adventist Churches is having a series of Healthy Cooking Demonstrations.

Classes will take place on Mondays and Thursdays in the month of June from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm at St. Peters Community Center and are facilitated by Mrs. Sabine Lake-Flanders.

The focus of the workshop will be on how individuals can incorporate the eight laws of health in their lives: pure air, sunlight, abstemiousness, rest, exercise, proper diet, the use of water and trust.

Instructors will share different ways of preparing traditional dishes but in a healthful manner. There will also be less familiar ingredients such as quinoa, millet, barley, spelt, amaranth and more.

In addition, there will be information provided on various health related topics.

Participants will learn, but not limited to, the following:

Week 1: fruit pancakes, baked oat loaf, baked rice loaf, apple stew, fruit Jams, granola, seed milk, zwie-back bread, etc.

Week 2: sandwich spreads, pesto, firm cheese, macaroni & cheese, quiches, Salad dressing and sauces, etc.

Week 3: meat substitutes, meat balls, croquette, lasagna, sauerkraut, soups etc.

Week 4: desserts, sprouting, cookies, no bake crusts and pies

The dates for the healthy cooking demonstrations are June 4, 7, 11, 14, 18, 21, 25, 28 at the St. Peters Community Center. All recipes will be plant based.

The nightly contribution is $6 per class and participants will get samples to take home.
