The Netherlands/St. Maarten:--- The Health Care Inspectorate in the Netherlands (IGZ) is busy trying to locate Dr. Robert Willem Johan Muller who was working at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) up until about a month ago. Dr. Muller left SMMC about a month ago indicating that he was going to work in Switzerland. SMN News learnt that Dr. Muller left when he received a letter from the IGZ informing him that they are holding him responsible for the wrongful deaths of at least two patients. Dr. Muller worked for a period of time at SMMC with Dr. Holiday.
According to news reports coming out of the Netherlands Dr. Muller, an acting vascular surgeon vanished and cannot be reached by the IGZ in the Netherlands. Media reports state that Dr. Muller is responsible for at least two deaths and that number might increase as the investigation continues. He was working at the Bethesda Hospital in Hoogeveen. The operations Muller performed on the patients who eventually died are reserved for vascular surgeons. The IGZ considers Dr. Muller to be a real danger to patients' safety.
Just last week the medical staff of the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) protested against the hiring of the new medical director because he is accused of running a hospital in the Netherlands into bankruptcy while the operating theaters did not meet proper health care standards. So far, it appears as though the Supervisory Board of the St. Maarten Medical Center is not conducting background checks when hiring critical staff for SMMC.
