Lions District Governor pays courtesy visit.

Emphasizes the importance of strong community engagement.

lionsvisit14102026PHILIPSBURG:--- District Governor, District 60B, Lion Hyacinth Jeremiah, MJF, recently made his annual official visit to the Lions Clubs on the islands of Sint Maarten, St. Eustatius, Saba and Anguilla, which form Zone 2B in the District.

The Sint Maarten Lions Club hosted the District Governor on Tuesday, October 6th.  His itinerary included courtesy visits to His Excellency Governor Ajamu Baly, President of Parliament Hon. Mrs. Sarah Wescott-Williams, and Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Luc Mercelina.

These meetings included discussions aimed at continued collaboration and service leadership for the island’s communities.

President of the Sint Maarten Lions Club, Lion Elton Richardson, remarked: “Our Clubs, Lions and Leos alike, experienced healthy discussions with our District Governor, who displayed keen interest in knowing our planned activities for this lionistic year 2026-2027 and ways that we would continue to have a positive impact, including in the areas of the Lions International Global Causes of Vision, Hunger, Youth, Environment, Diabetes, Cancer and other Humanitarian Efforts.

We also discussed the success of our annual fundraising “Wally Havertong Lions Christmas Bingo Spectacular” and “Father’s Day Car Raffle” initiatives which helps to generate funds to cover the costs of community projects.”

District Governor Lion Hyacinth Jeremiah joined Lion President Elton Richardson and 1st Vice District Governor Lion Davey Woods at PJD2 radio station for a live interview on the “Viewpoint with Wendell Moore” Show, affording him the opportunity to express his views on the Lions International movement and, in particular, his objectives for the year and his experience during the visit to St. Maarten.

District Governor Lion Hyacinth Jeramiah MJF commented: “Traditionally, visits to Clubs by a District Governor entail getting formal reports on a club’s set goals in terms of meeting Lions International standards and whether a club is in alignment with the objectives of the District and International on a local level. Over time, we have expanded the visit to include candid exchanges around the actual service projects, the impact to the community and ways in which Clubs can remain sustainable in a time when NGOs, in particular service clubs, face many challenges in terms of continued funding, maintaining membership numbers due to competing organizations, or simply the change in the environments that we operate in terms of technological advances.” He added: “I am pleased to report that the Sint Maarten Lions Club remains an example. It is a Club that can share best practices with other Clubs in the Region, ensuring continued meaningful service impact to the communities that we serve.”

In between formal meetings, the District Governor enjoyed a sightseeing tour that included visits to the Lions Roundabout on ATH Illidge Road,

The Sint Maarten Lions Club thanks local businesses, including PJD2, Oyster Bay Beach Resort, Baker Suites, Princess Juliana International Airport, and the offices of our island’s Governor, President of Parliament, and Prime Minister, for warmly welcoming and hosting our District Governor during his visit.
